Published in July 2025, Andy Thomas’s latest book is STRANGE: Paranormal Realities in the Everyday World …

In his new book Strange (published by Watkins Publishing) Andy takes a fresh and important look at the paranormal with incisive analysis to make the case that encounters with it are far more common than is acknowledged and that they urgently need re-evaluation.

Based on his many meetings with witnesses during his three decades-plus of researching the paranormal, Strange constitutes one of the broadest assessments of unexplained phenomena ever carried out, investigating their possible causes and profound implications. What’s on the cover?

Look closely, and the fish-eye lens in the middle shows people going about their everyday lives, unaware that the paranormal is never far away, as evidenced by the faint spectral form materialising in their midst … Is it a ghost, an alien, someone having an out of body experience, or something even stranger? As the book discusses, there may be more crossover between all these subjects and more than is immediately obvious …

Andy says this about the intentions of Strange:

People’s experiences of paranormal phenomena are not given the respect they deserve; mainstream media sideline them as harmless entertainment, while closed-minded scientists disregard such tales without proper – or any – consideration. From the thousands of conversations I have had over the years with perfectly sane, normal folk at my lectures, and from shared written testimony, it has become clear to me that the paranormal demands new attention in an era when even some physicists are now openly saying that we may not have understood reality correctly and even the US Congress is openly discussing UFOs. Yes, some things can be explained by straightforward causes – but many cannot, when the evidence is scrutinised.

With the very valuable input of space scientist and medium Chris Connelly MSc, physicist and linguist Dr John Cole, and statistician and IT expert Barry Reynolds as moderators for the book – rationalists, but ones open-minded to other realms – I set myself the task of not taking the standard position of approaching paranormal encounters with doubt, but instead open-mindedly considering how they might be explained by non–mundane causes, based on the latest theories of multi-dimensionality and quantum entanglement.

By doing this, it soon becomes clear that phenomena of various kinds might actually be inevitabilities in a complex, leaky and multi-layered universe that doesn’t play by the rules narrow sceptical human minds set for it.

Written in a very approachable style, I am hoping this book will help create a whole new awareness for those coming to these subjects for the first time, while making for a coherent and vibrant summary for paranormal aficionados, giving fresh insights using brand new material, juxtaposed with some famous cases to give context.

In a way, Strange – although a completely standalone book – can be seen as the completion of an unofficial trilogy I began with the 2019 update of Conspiracies, followed by 2021’s The New Heretics, inasmuch as all three books ask people to look again at beliefs, theories and phenomena that have been neglected or scorned by the mainstream. For me personally, it is the completion of a long cycle; my writing career began with investigating aspects of the paranormal (crop circles, psychic interaction and UFOs – see here) and now I return to it in a much wider way, able to see the bigger picture and hopefully offer a new way to understand its potentially huge significance for humanity. In an age where AI, love it or hate it, may at some point start to sensibly analyse the non-sceptical options for explaining the paranormal and process data in ways not previously possible, what it may discover could surprise us, something explored in the mind-boggling final chapter.”
