Andy and friends on the famous crop circle video 30 years on – and AI!

Andy’s ongoing Expand Your Horizons’ radio show on Food For Thought Radio has just marked the 30th anniversary of the famous ‘Oliver’s Castle video’ of a crop formation appearing – and other recent shows have explored many important topics, including the future of AI …

Here are two vital podcasts to listen to!

30 years ago this month, a video emerged of a crop circle appearing under balls of light at Oliver’s Castle in Wiltshire – and the arguments over its authenticity have never ended. Long before AI manipulation became part of our everyday world, and when convincing special effects required very expensive kit, a video was somehow taken or produced that still provokes debate.

On Andy’s most recent ‘Expand Your Horizons’ radio show on fftradio.com, video experts and circle researchers Gary King and Jason Porthouse discuss with him the fascinating ins and outs of just why this video continues to confound, inspire and enflame. The resulting conversation makes for one of the most comprehensive and intriguing podcasts yet to discuss the fascinating and exciting detective story behind the video’s revelation and the endless analyses that have followed. Andy’s book Swirled Harvest, referred to in the interview and which contains a comprehensive account of the video and the circumstances around it can be read for free here. Go to page 51 for the relevant chapter.

If AI could easily produce such a sequence today, why hasn’t anything as convincing come forward since ..? On the theme of AI’s REAL capabilities and where it is all likely to lead us, the previous programme will also be of interest to anyone trying to understand the futureshock coming our way, as AI software engineer Francis Beasley talks us through the highs and lows of why we cannot afford to ignore what is coming our way or pretend that it won’t affect us …

[An apology that for the first ten minutes of the AI interview Andy and his guest sound rather weird and stilted – that was because they were hearing a hideous triple-echo in their headphones (that can’t be heard on the soundtrack) and could barely make sense of anything. Bear with it because once the sound issue gets sorted, the discussion settles down and becomes truly compelling!]
